Audioguides

The audioguides are available in: Italian, English, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese.

They may be withdrawn only at the ticket office of Porta Marina.

Cost: 8 €

Information Office

At the Information Office of Porta Marina there is a welcome point.

Qualified staff is on duty at the ticket offices of Porta Marina, Piazza Esedra and Piazza Anfiteatro.

The information is provided both in Italian and in English.

With the ticket you will receive, if available, a map of the archaeological area and a mini-guide produced in Italian, English, French, German and Spanish, coordinated with the audioguides.

Disabled people

It is possible, indicating your needs at the welcome point and at the ticket offices, to access to the equipped path for visitors with reduced mobility that, starting from Piazza Anfiteatro allows the visit of somes sites located in the southeastern part of the city.

Thanks to the agreement signed between the Ministry of Heritage and Culture and the Google company, it is possible to do a virtual tour of the Pompeii excavations and the Villa dei Misteri passing through the main streets of the ancient city by filming.

Devices applications

For the Pompeii and Ercolano Excavations it is also available the application “i-MiBAC-Top 40”, official mobile application issued by the competent Ministry. Initially it can be used on iPhone, iPod touch and iPad but it will soon be used with all smartphones, also in English, “i-MiBAC-Tpo 40” can be downloaded for free from the AppStore and the institutional websites.

Services

Important information

It can be visited about the 30% of the archaeological area.

On rotation you can visit some Pompeii domus, the list of which is available at the ticket offices.

Saturday and Sunday you can join guided tours of the Casa dei Casti amanti and Casa di Giulio Polibio, with an additional ticket that can be purchased at the ticket offices or online.

Along the tour route there is an appropriate signage concerning monuments and services.

Animals

In the archaeological area big dogs are not allowed. Those admitted must be equipped with a leash and held inside the buildings. We kindly suggest to our visitors to do not get close to any animals unattended that may be present in the area.

Inside the bookshop

of the Archaeological area, located at the Porta Marina entrance can be purchased plants, guides at different levels of detail in the main European languages and Japanese language, several publications on the excavations of Pompeii and other sites in the Vesuvius area, as well as the main monographs published by the Superintendence for Archaeological Heritage of Naples and Pompeii, by the International Association Friends of Pompeii and other research Institutes.

Cloakroom service

A cloakroom service finalized to store large bags, backpacks and umbrellas is set up at the different entrances.

Timetables:

November to March, daily from 8,30 am to 5,00 pm

April to October, daily from 8,30 am to 7,30 pm.

The service is free.

Inside the Archaeological Area there is a restaurant-bar, located behind the Civil Forum.

At the Porta Marina ticket office there is an ATM machine.

Safety

It is forbidden to enter inside the excavations of Pompeii, Ercolano, Oplonti, Stabia and inside the Boscoreale Museum, bags, backpacks, luggage, cases, whose size is larger than 30x30x15 cm.

The visitors can leave their personal belongings at the free cloakroom service present at all entry gates.
